Local villages

Smarden village with its old Flemish wool merchants houses, two pubs, a post office, a butchers and an art gallery. Smarden has in the past been voted ‘best kept village in Kent’ and we think for good reason.

Tenterden, which is also known as the ‘jewel of the weald’ is a great place to shop with its long High Street peppered with lots of antique shops and an array of individually owned shops and eateries. There is a market there every Friday and Saturday and it is also home to the popular Tenterden Steam Railway, which regularly has special events and is definitely worth a visit.

Ashford benefits from a large range of the usual high street shops along with its own shopping mall and designer outlet centre. The nearby villages of Biddenden, Pluckley and Sissinghurst are also all worth a visit.

We are adjacent to the Big Cat Sanctuary, which has over 70 different kinds of lions, tigers, leopards and other big cats. You could be forgiven for thinking that you are in the Serengeti instead of the Kent countryside when the big cats start roaring! They hold special events throughout the year including photographic days and ranger experiences but are only open to the public for four days of the year. Demand is always high and all events must be booked in advance.

If castles are your passion then Leeds, Sissinghurst, Bodiam, Hever, Scotney and Dover are all within easy driving distance. Canterbury is also within the area with its wonderful Cathedral and quaint little streets.
